Musculoskeletal Research

The overarching objective of the Musculoskeletal Research Center is research and education on common musculoskeletal conditions of aging such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, sarcopenia and foot disorders.
The Musculoskeletal Research Center comprises a team of seven independently funded investigators committed to the study of the aging musculoskeletal system. The faculty has particular expertise in the areas of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions to prevent osteoporosis, falls and fractures, observational epidemiology of musculoskeletal diseases, nutritional epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, and the relationship between osteoporosis and other diseases such as osteoarthritis, vascular calcification, and metabolic syndrome. The Center is the home of the Framingham Osteoporosis Study and the Framingham Foot Study. Funding for research includes the NIH (NIAMS and NIA), foundations (American College of Rheumatology, National Osteoporosis Foundation, American Society for Bone and Mineral Research), and industry. Also, the Center is generously supported by a nine-year commitment of funding from the Men's Associates of Hebrew SeniorLife. |
