| Harvard Cooperative Program on Aging |
| The Harvard Cooperative Program on Aging (HCPOA) is a program of the Hebrew SeniorLife Institute for Aging Research, with funding from the Harvard Older Americans Independence Center and the Massachusetts Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. This program provides education to the lay community on health and aging issues, as well as opportunities to participate in research studies on aging. It also serves as a research volunteer recruitment resource for Boston area investigators by making their research studies known to Cooperative members.
The HCPOA maintains a subject registry of approximately 1,100 ethnically diverse community-dwelling elderly volunteers, more than 90 percent of whose health status is updated bi-annually. These individuals are strongly committed to research and have agreed to be contacted to participate in research studies. This subject registry is maintained through our continual community outreach, including educational presentations and the publication of a newsletter on healthy aging, distributed three times a year to more than 9,500 older adults and the agencies serving them. In its 15-year existence, HCPOA has recruited older Boston-area participants to more than 350 research studies for 50 Boston area research institutions, helping them meet their recruitment goals for diverse participants.
